Carolyn Meisel, a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) for more than 20 years, is active in her Rochester region and a 2015 presenter at the JASNA Annual General Meeting in Kentucky. She has created a series of six puzzle books based on Jane Austen’s novels.
Carolyn was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, and now lives with her husband David in Geneseo, New York. David and Carolyn were high-school sweethearts. They married in 1962. After graduating from Fairmont State College, Carolyn followed David, by then a college professor, to Ohio State University and later to the University of Virginia before they came north for David to teach at SUNY-Geneseo in 1970. They have two daughters, two sons-in-law and two granddaughters.
Carolyn retired as a mediator; has been a teacher and a paralegal; owned and raised Portuguese Water Dogs and is past president of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America. She owned a day care center where the kids called her Grandma Bear. She has served in political office, is on zoning boards in the town and village of Geneseo, and serves on two library boards. She is also noted for her canned peaches.
